Based in Brighton, Victoria Salomon works with her students to offer relief from pain and discomfort, guided by her years of practice and knowledge. Now offering online classes through us here at Obby, Victoria can offer her valuable expertise to a wider audience. We chatted to her about how what drew her to her practice, what she loves most about teaching, and how she's using Obby to help her business grow.

When was the first time you started work in pain management, and what drew you to it?

I started out 25 years ago.  I have a history of physical and mental illness in my family, and also of suicide, so I was looking for different approaches to health and well-being.

What made you realise that teaching might be for you? And was it difficult for you to make that leap from creating for yourself to teaching others?

I had learnt to work with clients successfully over the years.  I could assess them, release their pain, but was fascinated by how they put that pain back into their bodies, simply by what they do and how they move. I wanted to help teach them the skills they needed to know to prevent that happening.

Victoria, founder of the Ixchel Therapies.

What encouraged you to join Obby as a teacher, and how has it helped you so far?

Obby was recommended by a colleague who knew about the company, as somewhere I could teach from. It gives me a platform and useful timetable to integrate into my website. I am so pleased to have a platform that can make my business look and feel more organised.  This is a big plus when dealing with all the aspects of teaching!

What has been your favourite student interaction since you’ve started teaching?

I love to watch my students feel into an area of their body which has been painful, and teach them to realign their spine, pelvis, rib cage, or jaw - and suddenly they completely alleviate their own pain!  They are amazed at how they can do this for themselves.

How do you maintain your inspiration, and how do you pass that onto your students?

I am totally inspired by how when people learn about their joints and different parts of their body, and when they learn how to realign their posture and biomechanics they can usually reduce pain, improve mobility and generally feel their life is far more on course!

What is your favourite thing to create? And your favourite thing to teach?

I love to create methodologies and processes that help people explore their body, and connect with areas of themselves they have been completely disassociated from.

What is your favourite part about teaching?

Being able to take someone from being completely disconnected from their body, to them feeling like they have power and agency over a serious pain condition that has impacted every area of their lives.
