During this workshop you'll learn how to make a mug using slabs of clay.

The very first step is actually to make the handle, which needs time to dry a little and uncurl before attaching. There are dozens of attractive and ergonomic handle shapes to choose from and you'll be shown how to make a shape that suits you.

Once the handles are made, you'll roll out, dry and smooth sheets of clay which can be shaped around a mould to create the body of your mug. The last stage is to join the handle and smooth the joins.

At the end of the workshop, you'll choose one of the studio glazes for your mug. The clay and glazes we use here are strong and durable, so your finished pieces can be used just like everything else in your kitchen and are dishwasher and microwave friendly.

Once left with us, your finished mug will be carefully dried, glazed and twice fired and it will be ready in 3 weeks time. **Note: 27th November is the last date you can attend where your work will be available to collect before Christmas.**

Odile is such a lovely teacher, super patient and super clear with instructions. The class is great for beginners and people with some experience but want to learn more. The studio is absolutely stunning, such a lovely creative environment, I am definitely going back for more classes with Odile!

We had a great time making our mugs on Sunday. The group was a good size and Zak was very attentive - especially since one of us couldn't seem to roll out the clay! The teaching was humorous and engaging with many pottery related puns being exchanged to lighten and liven up the mood. Even though my partner and I are 10 minutes late into the class, we managed to catch up with breeze and ease with the effective guidance. Technical tools, processes and their respective purposes, are clearly explained. The class size is great for any popping inquiry to be amply answered. It is a great date idea to pick up a new skill interest on a weekend and create tangible memories with your loved ones. What's more, there will be a piece of handcrafted memorabilia which could be taken home. Highly recommend!

The hand building mug class was a great experience - we were guided along every step to create our mugs and they all looked amazing at the end of the class. Learn to use sheets of clay to create your own mug.

Throwing is the process of creating dishes on the wheel. It's messy, absorbing and very addictive! 

It's a challenging process, but this workshop only takes three people, so you get close tuition from a very experienced teacher. Perfect for complete beginners to pick it up and have a go or for anyone wanting a little more practice or help with a new technique.

Your tutor will start with a demonstration and take you step by step through the stages of throwing before guiding you through the process on a wheel of your own.  At the end of the workshop, you can choose one of the studio glazes for your favourite dish. 

Once left with us, your finished pieces will be dried, glazed and twice fired. They will be ready in about 3 weeks time. The clay and glazes we use here are strong and durable, so your finished pieces can be used just like everything else in your kitchen and are dishwasher and microwave friendly.

Masks are not currently required at the studio, but please be aware that they may become so if national COVID guidelines are updated.

I absolutely loved this class! The studio is part of a larger shared artists space (Kindred Studios) which  is based near Maida Vale and super easy to get to. When I arrived Odile had a cup of tea brewing, and I had a chance to have a look around  before the class started. The studio itself is really lovely and bright, and gives such a great insight in to the inner workings of a full time ceramicist. The class started with such an expert demonstration from Odile that I thought I would be picking up the wheel throwing in no time, little did I realise that her skills make it look a lot easier than it is (it's also totally mesmerising to watch)! We then spent some time cutting and shaping our clay into usable pieces ready to start throwing on the wheel. Of course this was my favourite part of the workshop, and after a few failed attempts, and lots of help and patience from Odile, I finally got the hang of it (I think!) and managed to create a bowl that I was incredibly happy with. It's such a great feeling of accomplishment, and I can't wait to see the bowl once it's glazed and fired. Something I didn't know, glazing is basically like a light coat of paint, and Odile gave us choices on the colour - bonus! I left the studio with a big smile on my face and have definitely got the pottery bug. Thank you so much to Odile and Obby for the perfect Sunday - 5 stars!!!

Odile is a fantastic teacher. There are only 3 people in total so she's able to give great individual attention. Odile teaches you how to get started using a pottery wheel and how to shape a bowl, which she will glaze and send to you.

We had such a fun afternoon and despite our intial misgivings that we would make a complete mess, we  made two pots that Odile is kindly glazing and posting to us.It was our first time using a pottery wheel, however Odile, with her initial demonstration, made it all seem so simple. She then guided us through the process step by step, giving assistance and encouragement when needed and making the experience throughly enjoyable and positive. Odile is welcoming and friendly and we would definitely recommend her workshop.  Both of us would like to go back to have another go!

My partner and I had so much fun centre-ing and throwing on the wheel, making our own breakfast/pasta/salad bowls. We are so excited to see the glazed and fired products in a few weeks' time! I took part to the Wheel pottery workshop and I found it absolutely brilliant. Odille is very sweet and she explains everything clearly, breaking down in steps in order to make everything even simpler. I went there with a friend with Asperger Syndrome and Odille has been superb.
Herself and her activity is very inclusive for whom has got conditions and hasn't: touching clay and all other materials is very primordial, very therapeutic and everyone can benefit from it.

As I suggested he it would be fantastic if she could run a weekly course to enter in depth in the art.

Learn to throw your very own bowls on a potters wheel with one-on-one tuition from an experienced teacher

This is a one off session with associated online resources to introduce you to our pottery studio and allow you to become a member. If you successfully complete the induction, you'll have access to member sessions at Odile Cadiot Ceramics and all of the shared studio tools.

The induction consists of online materials and a quiz for you to complete at home and a studio technician to spend time with you during your first session to show you around the studio.

Odile studied chemistry, but fell in love with pottery after trying some evening classes in Farnham. After learning to throw and run a studio by working with other artists, she decided to set up her own space in West London which she runs with her partner Kieran. 

Odile now works full time as a potter and pottery teacher. She's invented many of the tools, teaching aids and techniques they use at the studio and is constantly experimenting with new ideas  and processes. . She also likes cooking and gardening because she can make the dishes...

Their studio is in a beautifully light and spacious little building, aptly named the Pottery Lane Art Centre, or PLACE, which works with the primary school next door to boost access to arts education and facilities. The centre also works to promote local artists with residencies, art markets and a shop on site selling only handmade and original art & crafts.
