Burcu (pronounced Borja) has been a London-Based Freelance Embellishment Designer since 2012. She graduated from UAL (London College of Fashion) in Fashion & Textiles, specialising in embroidery/embellishment design. She has worked for various established high street brands, including Coast, Debenhams, Monsoon, Evans and ASOS, creating and designing contemporary embellishment/embroidery designs for the commercial market.
She's taught workshops and courses to many students both in London and through online platforms. She has run after-school clubs to primary school children and has given tutoring in textiles to young children also. She is DBS checked and have completed a safe-guarding course.
Her profession has become her medicine and has found solace in beading when she suffered from stress & anxiety. Because of this, Burcu now aims to support mental health issues through the art of hand embellishment. Her workshops inspire self therapy, and she now encourages many women to use hand embellishment as a form of 'craft therapy'.
She experiments greatly with bead components and fabrics, and has recently begun searching for sustainable ways to hand embellish, sourcing Eco-friendly sequins and fabrics to create embellishments whilst bettering the environment we live in.
