In this three-day course in Brixton, you will use lithographic drawing media and tools in order to learn how to prepare and print from ancient lithographic stones.
The lithographic process was invented in 1796 by Alois Senefelde in Munich. The word Lithography comes from the Greek lithos “stone” + graphe “to write”
This course will have you using lithographic stones to draw your images on and print from. The stones used are limestone, one of the oldest rocks found on the earth, having been around for 350 million years.
You will be introduced to a variety of mark-making media. Lithography is a favourite printmaking technique for those who love to draw and so is perfect for those of you who love sketching and doodling. By the end of the three days you will have the confidence to prepare drawings on stones and the skill to take proofs of your images.
If you become completely smitten with this technique, we recommend you take a follow-on course to build further knowledge and ability to handle the intricate preparations using stones involves.
This course is a great way to meet local printing enthusiasts so just turn up with plenty of printing passion and you’ll be sure to have a ball.
Your tutor will be Colin Gale who has 30 years expertise in lithography - his favourite being the use of stones. He is nationally respected and has printed with many UK artists so you’ll be in safe hands.
