This class will teach you the dynamic and graphic image making technique of linocut. You will work with tools for cutting, printing and be introduced to printing with multiple blocks.
Famous artists such as Picasso and Matisse used the lino cutting method to make many pieces of work. Picasso has in fact been credited with inventing reduction linocuts, where a piece of lino is used multiple times in one print, being recut after each color has been printed.
Cutting a block of lino is a vigorous activity so correct handling of the tools is the first thing you will learn. There are several types of lino so you your tutor will teach you to understand their surfaces and how to choose which one to use. This is as important as knowing when to print a linocut by hand or with a relief press.
This class is perfect for anyone who loves graphic shapes, dynamic colour and enjoys seeing the negative/positive and inside/outside of shapes. You will be able to cut and print lino at home or in a printmaking studio after taking this class.
If your enjoy this class and fancy taking your linocuts to the next level then be sure to book yourself onto our more advanced class, Multi-block Linocuts.
You will be sent home with the images you print and the blocks of lino you have cut so that you can continue the craft at home.
Megan Fishpool will be your tutor and has 28 years expertise printing linocuts for galleries and professional artists so you’ll be in very good hands!
