Join this 5-week oil painting course to learn all the basics by painting from observation in a relaxed environment in Richmond.
The pigments used for oil paint are made up of organic materials and minerals, snail mucus (ewww) and semiprecious stones.
Guy Shoham will guide you through this 5-week taster course in oil painting. You will be painting from observation in a relaxed studio in Richmond. Guy will discuss materials, gesso and how to prepare a surface for painting.
Week one will focus on linear and tonal drawing and how to use a view finder. In week two you’ll start to paint with a limited palette and discuss ideas around composition. Week three will cover colour theory and experimenting with colour mixing. On weeks four and five, students will work on their individual still lives.
Guy graduated with a distinction from the M.A. programme at Chelsea College of Art before getting a scholarship to attend the ‘Drawing Year’ at the Royal School of Drawing. When he is not teaching, Guy paints in his Brixton Studio and on exhibition, check out his work here.
