Dresses have evolved through time, from 16th century corsets, to the more varied styles we see on the high streets today. However, I doubt anyone, historian or not, could foresee how much they would evolve! If you haven’t seen it, take a look, as singer Lady Gaga turned up for the 2010 MTV awards in a dress made of raw beef!
You’ll be introduced you to the features of basic dressmaking, including how to cut out your pattern, tips on setting up and using a domestic sewing machine. Then you’ll get stuck into your 'Bettine' dress, which features a blousy bodice with scoop neckline, kimono sleeves, turn up cuffs, elasticated waistline and tulip skirt.
The plain skirt version is perfect for beginners. More experienced? Try the pocket skirt version and optional cuff tabs. Barley will guide you through the process of making a stylish 'Bettine' dress, giving you tips and advice every step of the way
Your stunning dress, the pride and joy of your wardrobe!
You’ll find your fellow fashnoistas at this ‘Betine’ dress course – come and meet them to share tips and stories. Alternatively come with a friend or two and ignite their passion for dressmaking!

Fabrications is an independent gallery, shop and workshop dedicated to contemporary textile practice and design, with a particular interest in up-cycling and eco design.

In 2011 "The Imaginerium" was built - a bolt-on to the Fabrications shop that is a fully-fitted working studio with a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere that is now dedicated for classes and workshops.
