Translating a 3D visual onto a 2D piece of paper is tricky. This course covers the fundamentals of translating the image your eyes see, into tremendous works of art and all takes place in the elegant V&A museum.
The longest drawing in the world is 9,582 meters long – but we don’t expect you to complete that in a class!
Our friendly, experienced tutors cover the basic of drawing by hand and guide you through the fundamentals of transcribing real-world visuals into two-dimensional drawings.
Spaces for this class are limited so make sure to book early to avoid disappointment.
You need to bring your own sketchbook but all other materials including stools will be provided by us, we recommend that you invest in the largest sketch book you can, preferably A3, hard-backed and ringbound so you can fold it over and rest it comfortably on your knee.
Great mix of theory and practice - and perfect setting to have this at the V&A! Would highly recommend this class to people wanting to take a first crack at drawing.

Sketchout provides a range of 1-day drawing workshops, making use of the visual and cultural wealth of London. The drawing and sketching workshops take place in London’s most beautiful, inspiring and culturally vibrant hotspots. Rosa and her Sketchout tutors are passionate, experienced and articulate, providing regular and specific guidance and support.
The classes are kept small giving plenty of 1-to-1 tuition for each student. All levels of drawing are welcome, including artistic capability from complete beginner to artistic/creative professional. This is possible because tuition is very individual. Adult workshops are open to anyone over sixteen or children over ten with adult accompaniment.
Current venues: The V&A, Tate Britain, National Portrait Gallery and Courtauld Gallery. Classes take place amongst the museums’ magnificent sculpture and visual art collections.
