Maria Grapsa has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Classical Piano Studies and a wealth of experience both teaching and performing. Her approach goes beyond classical music to jazz, pop, rock, world, latin and blues. She has been offering piano lessons since 2008, both privately and in schools.   

Maria’s professional performance career centers on jazz. She is a prolific composer, actively composing for film, theatre and dance productions. Her jazz compositions have been compared to Brad Mehldau. She has been cooperating successfully as a teacher with some of the best music schools in London. She works privately as a piano tutor in Islington area and organises imaginative music workshops for children or adults all around London.

Increasing numbers of people are finding themselves drawn to the ethereal and intriguing sounds that have travelled into Europe and America, primarily from Mongolia and Tuva in the former Soviet Union.

Most recently popularised in the West by the touring musicians Huun Huur Tu, Yat Kha, and Sainkho Namatchlyak this fascinating style* of singing allows the simultaneous production of two or more notes by the same singer. Often called Khoomei or throat singing allows harmonics to be amplified and heard alongside a sung note or 'drone'.

This astounding feat is accomplished by deliberate enhancement of the natural harmonics found in our voices. The voice, mouth, lips, teeth, jaw, throat, tongue, lungs and diaphragm can all be used in a subtle and complex concert that will allow you to produce these wonderful sounds.

These lessons will lead you through the whole process in easy-to-follow stages, from beginner to advanced. We will start with an easier Western style before progressing into the Eastern styles.

Our signature First piano lesson is carefully designed so our students can leave their first session playing hands together.

We start with a 15-minute stimulation about piano technique.  We use this time to teach students how to manage their arm weight and channel it towards the keys. Our house technique is inspired by the work of Vicente Scaramuzza, one of the world's most famous piano maestros.

We then continue with some Music theory basics. The idea is to provide our first-timers with enough tools to read independently the first exercises of Bartok Mikrokosmos vol. I

If all is successful we then head into completing our Pre-Grade Level 1

In this lesson, students will learn advanced guitar techniques (arpeggios enclosures, bebop scales,  odd time signatures, retrograde approach, polyrhythms, etc.).
This class has been designed to help the student develop an arsenal of techniques and skills which are necessary for mastering the instrument and follow a career as a professional musician or guitar tutor in the future.

Some of this lesson's topics include styles' tuning and arrangement techniques for contemporary styles. Students will learn how to arrange different musical instruments and develop advanced harmony and songwriting skills.

Furthermore, during these lessons the students are trained to recognise extended chords and harmonic changes in tunes by ear while they will be taught how to write music scores and lead sheets effectively.
