    Enter the Berry Bros & Rudd’s historic Pickering Cellar for an interactive introduction to Wine. Over six Tuesday evenings you will be inducted into the delicious and extraordinary world of grapes and wine. With the help of the talented Wine Educators and the support of Berry Bros & Rudd’s brand-new course book

    To begin you will be focusing in on the factors that influence the balance of wine, learning about acidity, aroma, flavor and alcohol. In addition you will experience how to depict wine, as well as spotting levels of oak influence and ageing. In the following five sessions you will apply your newly gained knowledge and appreciation for the fine notes and base tastes, examining three or four different grape varieties and contrasting key examples from Europe and the New World.

    The foundation of this course is to allow you to reconnoiter and employ your natural tasting ability whilst applying your observations to facts about the provenance of the wines. Throughout the course you will tackle a diverse variety of questions and aim to challenge common myths about wine – and most importantly heighten your confidence in tasting. Cheese, nibbles and the Head Chef’s canapés are served at each session, along with plenty of water.

    Session 1 What is in a glass of wine and how to sense it

    Session 2 Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon

    Session 3 Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot

    Session 4 Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Chenin Blanc

    Session 5 Pinot Noir, Gamay, Shiraz/Syrah and Zinfandel

    Session 6 Grenache, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Tempranillo and a review of all grape varieties covered

    NB Wines for this event will be chosen from Berry Bros. & Rudd’s stocks at the time of the event, so most will be available to order afterwards.
