4 hour class
This class will give you an introduction to the four main ingredients of beer - malt, hops, water and yeast. We will also be entering into a discussion of how these ingredients affect the taste of the final product, while learning about the different styles of beer and the families they relate to. We will also cover a brief history of beer, detailing the origin and the factors relating to why different styles developed in different countries. Finally, you will be led through a tutored tasting of a number of different beers linked back to the ingredients used and the styles.

Alex Stevenson is the founder of TheDrinkSchool. He is a WSET Diploma holder and Certified Educator as well as a Beer Academy Sommelier. Alex has worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years, throughout his career he has constantly aimed to develop his knowledge and passion. He has helped set up numerous bars and restaurants, developing their wine, beer, spirits and cocktail offer. Most recently he was part of the team to open the new Switch House at the Tate Modern and has been responsible for developing their drinks offer, their in-house training plans, as well as working with their events team to deliver some world class experiential days. He is also the driving force behind a range of bespoke drinks developed for Tate ranging from foraged soft drinks to a Tate gin and a beer in collaboration with Fourpure. Alex regularly appears in Imbibe on their tasting panels, judges for SIBA and hosts masterclasses and training's all over London.
