City of London
3 hour workshop
Wednesday 27 March, 3, 10 and 17 April 2019
6pm - 9pm
You will be introduced to the process of wood engraving from preliminary drawings and design; transferring drawings to blocks; cutting blocks; choosing papers and proofing to printing a small limited edition of black and white prints.
The course includes health and safety in workshop, the care and use of wood engraving tools and the use of St Bride Foundation's numerous historic presses. The small class size ensures that students are able to have a press each during editioning.
You will study the work of historical and contemporary wood…
Established in 1891 with a clear social and cultural purpose, St Bride Foundation is one of London’s hidden gems.
Housed in a beautiful Grade II listed Victorian building, St Bride Foundation was originally set up to serve the burgeoning print and publishing trade of nearby Fleet Street, and is now finding a new contemporary audience of designers, printmakers and typographers who come to enjoy a regular programme of design events, workshops and access to internationally renowned collection relating to printing, publishing and graphic design in the Print Library.
