A creative club to learn skills, make unique creations and feel inspired. 

The Old School Club is a welcoming creative hub, based in Battersea, South West London. The founder, Inma Goodhew, is part-time mother of two children, part-time creative visionary. Growing up in an environment where everything was handmade, personalised and familiar, her inventive upbringing lead to a passion for sharing her skills with others. Yet Inma hit a frustrating block, where, on maternity leave, she wanted to take some creative classes but there was nowhere in London aimed at parents with children. so Inma formed a sewing club and hired babysitters to look after the babies whilst the mums were learning and making. This started to grow into something much bigger, much quicker than Inma could imagine; from a network of young mothers to a devoted community, breeding creativity.

Inma found that making things for herself, her family and her home allowed her to learn, improve and practice everything she know. Having done it all her life, she now uses her broad range of skills and styles to advise her clients on everything, from colours & patterns, to fabrics and furniture styling. Her true expertise lies in teaching beginners and keen crafters how to sew, paint, style furniture, upcycle, master embroidery and nail DIY projects. Her classes are always informative, bespoke, friendly, but most importantly, great fun. 

Inma appreciates that, as a mother of two, mums need their down time and it comes in no better form than getting creative and being social with other mums.
 
Inma is rightly proud of her bold career u-turn, transforming her profession from a senior IT role, to doing something she was truly passionate about - teaching, making and sharing with other creatives her entrepreneurial journey.

Terrarium Workshop - Slim Cork Jar

Come and enjoy this 2.5 hour workshop getting creative and jewellery making. Craft your very own hammered sterling silver ring, whether as a gift for somebody or a treat for yourself. Hosted by close expert jewellers.

They will guide you through the process of making a ring using traditional goldsmithing techniques such as annealing, forging, soldering, and filing to name but a few. In this workshop you will have the option of making either a wide hammered band or two fine hammered stacking rings (as pictured). Over the course of the class you will have plenty of opportunity to practice your newfound skills, as demonstrated by the jewellers throughout.

There’ll be plenty of opportunity for one-to-one interaction with the jewellers during your session.

We offer gold plating as an optional extra which can be requested and paid for at the end of the workshop. Choose from yellow gold, rose gold or black rhodium plating for your finished ring(s) - prices range from £20 - £40. Please note this service takes up to 3 weeks and you will need to leave your ring(s) with us, which can then be collected or posted out.

Suitable for complete beginners with no previous jewellery making experience.

Participants must be 18 or over.

This class is designed to provide you with the essential groundwork needed for wax carving all whilst enjoying a glass of bubbly in a relaxed, creative environment.
Carving wax gives you endless options to freely design whatever ring you want, as you are not limited to a silver wire or strip. This technique allows you to create something 3D, abstract, classic, chunky, geometric or organic, so you can let your imagination run wild!
The workshop begins with a short introduction to the lost wax process and its uses. Ros and Milena will inform you about basic tips and tricks on how to design a comfortable ring. Showing you various techniques and tools that can be used.
You will then start by designing/sketching out your ring, (samples and images will be available for inspiration) before beginning to carve your wax.
Once you’re happy with your finished carving we will show you how to complete the ring and prepare it for casting. After the class your wax carved ring will be cast, finished and polished by Ros and Milena using recycled silver. We will contact you once it’s ready for collection or we can post it out to you.
If you wish to have your ring gold plated or have your wax cast in solid gold than this will be at an additional cost and can be paid for and decided on the day.

Your finished silver ring will be ready for collection or posting within 2.5-3 weeks after the class.

Extra services such as engraving, gold plating and stone setting are offered at an additional cost. These can be requested at the end of the class. Please note these services have a lead time of 2-3 weeks on top of the casting/finishing time.

Learn how to turn a wooden bowl using a foot-powered pole lathe at our woodland workshop in the city. Suitable for beginners and improvers.

Learn a heritage craft at the London Greenwood workshop.

You will use a foot-powered pole lathe to turn your own wooden bowl from locally grown wood.

Starting by learning good axe technique to prepare your bowl blank then how to set up a pole lathe you will move on to master the use of bowl turning hook tools.

Powering your lathe by foot you will create a functional wooden bowl to take home with you.

We will also talk about drying, oiling and caring for your bowl as well as selecting materials and how to continue.

Book with confidence! We have reduced the number of students within classes to a maximum of three to ensure a safe spacious environment.

This drop in session is suitable for beginner  and intermediate sewers. Please note these are women only classes.

If have never used a sewing machine before you will be taught how to use the machine and make bags, neck lines or small garments according to your own aims and interests.

You can also come and work on your own unique garment projects, with the guidance and help of a professional at your own pace.

Students have successfully created a variety of garments like jackets, shirts, skirts and even wedding dresses!

The studio has a domestic over locker , various machines and equipment but you are welcome to bring your own.

Not a sewer? No problem! Bring along your knitting, crochet, weaving, macrame or other crafting project. Our expert sewing teachers may not be able to support you to the same extent but we’re sure you’ll love the extra space, new pals and the freedom to be messy!

As well as enjoying the hands-on experience with all the materials provided, you will also learn a little about the history and philosophy of Kintsugi. We create up to two classic Japanese bowls. You also have the option to bring your own crockery (vase, plate, bowl, cup) and we can explore how to fix this the best way.

 Craft My Day Party - Thames Ditton

In this three hour class you will learn the basics of TIG welding on mild steel.

Starting out with an explanation on how this form of welding works, settings and parts on the machine, how to position yourself and hold the torch.
You will then have a go at striking the arc on a piece of steel, running a bead without filler rod before moving on to learning how to move and dab filler rod in to the weld puddle.

Dan will then talk you through the various types of weld joints, show you how to tack two pieces together and then run a full weld across the joint.

At this point there will be a break before you come back and have a go at welding an outside corner joint. This is in preparation for the metal dice that you will weld together yourself and take home with you to finish off however you like.

For a small surcharge you can have the dice powder coated in any colour you like. Or just leave it raw with the welding marks on it!

Learn how to make a simple ring  from sterling silver in this two and a half hour workshop.  Materials are included in the cost of workshop and no experience is necessary as you will be guided step by step through the whole process.  During the workshop you will learn the following:-

How to use a piercing saw.

How to add texture.
How to finish and polish your final piece.

At the end of the workshop you will be able to take home a shiny new sterling silver ring.

Join lifestyle and streetwear label Stööki as they host their exclusive jewellery workshops at their studio in Greenwich.

Due to COVID-19, Stööki are now hosting smaller group and individual sessions to comply with government guidelines and for a more intimate making experience. Just pick a time slot that suits you in our booking calendar. This is a group session which requires a minimum of 2 bookings and includes a discount.

This workshop will be focused on the creation and personalisation of rings and pendants and led by Stööki's jewellery technologist Nadia Abbas.

In this workshop you will:

Get an insight in to the jewellery making process
Receive a wax ring or pendant template to customise with your own design
Get a tutorial covering a range of jewellery making techniques

The aim is to have a finished wax master at the end of the workshop that can be taken home, but there is also the option of turning your personalised wax ring or pendant into a finished jewellery piece.

Please note this class is for women only.

This is a drop in class to learn the crafty skill of pattern cutting. During this class you will have the opportunity to make a pattern from a block , adjust a ready-made pattern or even make your own block with free hand cutting style.

As a drop-in session, some, but not all of the points below will be covered over 3 hours - this will depend on your ability and how many sessions you have attended in the past:

How to make a free hand loose fitting  block to your size
How to make a skirt
Dart manipulation
How to create style lines
How to adjust a pattern to a different size

The class happens at the same time every week, so feel free book onto multiple sessions to continue to learn this skill!

Hello and welcome.  My name is Claire and I own Couchman Bespoke an ethical tailoring company based in London, UK.

Learn to sew beyond a straight line, we will cover curves and seams too.  We will go through the machine from all angles if needed too.  Whether you are learning to sew for the first time or to top up on the knowledge you already have.  Bring a readiness to learn and maybe a notebook for all that you learn, I may take some photos for use on my social media if you allow and can forward them onto you after.

I can now offer this class virtually, though you are welcome to bring your machine into the in-person class.   We will explore the sewing machine through the differing components, dials and how to thread it up.  If you have questions about the different feet supplied with your machine they can be answered.

This hour lesson will cover the sewing machine, sewing straight lines (what to look for when sewing), taking it to a curved edge and even a few different seam styles.  Choose from 1 to 1 or group class. You will enjoy a pleasant environment with a patient tutor near Canning Town station.  All equipment is provided for your learning experience.  You will be learning techniques that align with your abilities, and take home all that you complete for reference. Learn to copy your favourite garment to get continued enjoyment out of a garment that fits like a dream.   In this class you will learn how to copy a garment on paper.  If we have time, you may get part way into cutting in cloth.  Cloth is unavailable through me, so please do bring your own.  Ability to complete this depends on the quickness in completing each stage and how detailed the garment is.  If you wish to sew up the garment i do recommend 3+ hours.
You can purchase such bundle hours through the Learn to make a garment bundle class, which are available for 3 hours plus.

This class is for all genders and ages.   Choose from 1 to 1 or group class.

Bring a readiness to learn and maybe a notebook.  You will enjoy a pleasant environment with a patient tutor near Canning Town station.  All equipment is provided for your learning experience. Be aware that this session time is based on a fairly simple style.  For any garment with layers, corset style or a jacket, coat etc, double the time will be required to complete.  Book the 3 hour session.
You will copy the garment on paper.  For the opportunity to make it in cloth book the 6 hour session.  Again if the garment is more complicated with layers, corset style or a jacket, coat etc; please book for 12+ hours.

Learn to pattern make a basic block to fit your measurements.   This 2.5 hour session  will focus on making a paper block to confirm the size.  Depending on time left we may be able to add a sleeve block or trousers, you will need an extra hour at least.

This class is for all genders and ages.  A fit block is made to your base body shape for the type of garment you wish to make from it.  Choose from 1 to 1 or group class.

The fit block paper pattern can be manipulated into a shirt, dress or even a jacket for the more advance learner.  If you would like further tuition on this let me know and we can arrange the details.  Be aware that the more advance the garment the longer it will take to complete with tuition.  Bundle classes are available for 3 hours plus, under Make A Garment Bundle.
