    About this class

This fun and hands-on class offers something slightly different to your average Friday evening. Come along and learn the art of bias tape appliqué with expert teacher Jenny Haynes, and start creating stunning sewn curves and zipped pouches that will leave you desperate for more.

    Did you know?

Sewing is an ancient art form and has been used to make a vast range of clothes and other items for thousands of years. With our modern day sewing machines, it is hard to imagine how this popular craft would have started out. The earliest sewing needles were made of bone between 25,000 and 30,000 years ago. It’s fair to say that we’ve come a long way since then!

    In this class

Bias tape applique is a simple way of creating beautiful curves without piecing. Jenny Haynes of Paper, Sax, Sten will guide you through all the necessary stages required to master this craft! You will be shown how to cut, shape and machine-sew curves using bias tape and sew a handy zip pouch whilst you’re at it! Not bad for one evenings work!

This class is suitable for beginners with some experience of using a sewing machine for projects. More experienced sewers are also welcome to come along!

Students should come prepared with the following materials:

•Two fat quarters for the pouch - quilting cotton or canvas weight *One fat quarter of quilting weight cotton to make bias tape •A 13" zip (or longer) •Light weight wadding if you want a more structured pouch (optional) •Coordinating thread for sewing your pouch and top stitching (ideally should match both your bias tape and the upper pouch fabric)

All other materials are provided for!

    Now you can

    • Start using the techniques learnt during the class at home to create pretty new items for friends and family
    • Experiment with the techniques learnt as you broaden your artistic repertoire
    • Teach others this new skill!
