Daytime

Learn about the different properties of stretch fabrics in this daylong workshop with Fashion Antidote, just off Brick Lane. Your instructor will show you all the specialist skills you need and you'll finish the day by making a T-shirt and a pair of leggings.

In this class

During this class you will cover all the specialist knowledge that you will need to start working with stretch fabrics. Your guide will start by teaching you about all the types of stretch fabrics and how to assess their individual percentage stretch.

Next, you will learn about how to prepare your fabric and how to set up your sewing machine the right way for working with stretch fabrics. Once you're happy with the setup stage, the class will move on to specialist stretch fabric techniques including managing the fabric when using your sewing machine and using the domestic over-locker. You'll finish by learning how to adapt seams, necklines and hems and then put everything you've learnt together to make a T-shirt and a pair of leggings.

This course is aimed at those with intermediate level sewing skills, so ideally you should have some practice but this is not essential!

Now you can

  • Confidently work with stretch fabric
  • Use your skills to make t-shirts with any pattern you want
  • Make more pairs of leggings - you can never have too many!
