Evening

This is a relaxed session of printmaking suitable for both beginners and advanced creative people, where your tutor Anna will share some of the fun techniques that she uses to create her own work.

You will be guided through the process to design and cut your own lino pattern and print your own original fabric.

Anna will be there to provide hands on help and design support and you'll have plenty of opportunity to practice your new printmaking skills.

Everything taught can be repeated at home so get ready to be inspired!

Your tutor for this Creative Happy London workshop is Anna Jackson of Black Cactus, a printmaker who hails from Australia and made South London her home after taking an advanced course in printmaking at Central St Martins.

Her pictures and vessels feature detailed organic shapes inspired by a personal connection with the environment - in fact, she can often be seen collecting leaves from the streets of Camberwell regardless of the weather!

Anna loves experimenting with texture and colour and enjoys sharing her skills and knowledge through teaching hands-on workshops such as this one.

Did you know?

Do you know the origins of linocut printing? Linoleum was created in the 1800s and used as a floor covering. Traditional wood and metal blocks were expensive and time consuming to create, whereas linoleum was cheaper to produce, and offered an easier surface to carve. It wasn’t as tough as metal, and didn’t have the surface grains and patterns that made wood trickier to carve. As linoleum was a softer material, it was much quicker to achieve results with the new linocut technique.

Our time with Anna was really wonderful, from start to finish. The class was exactly what my partner and I were looking for and with the addition of great company. In her teaching, Anna is attentive but not over-bearing, guiding us through the processes involved in lino-printing and then letting us explore the medium. The setting was perfect - even down to calming background music - and Anna's friendly tone gave the day a calming atmosphere, despite our being quite productive! Well-recommended.

This was my first venture into a new craft for a number of years. The tutor was relaxed and friendly as well as being experienced and knowledgable about her craft. The venue was easy to find as there was exact directions given on the website. The studio was spacious and pleasant, a comfortable and interesting place to work in. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening and would happily attend another workshop with Anna.
