What you will do
2.5 hour class
In this group workshop we will go through the basic terminology of hand knitting and take a look at some necessary and helpful equipment.
We will chat about different yarns, fibre content and their properties, weight and thicknesses, how to choose the best yarn and needles for a project.
We will share how to find inspiration and where to look for yarn and patterns for beginners.
Bamboo needles and yarn, are included in the cost of this workshop and you will choose a wool, wool blend or other yarn not derived from animals if that’s your buzz to work with.
Learn to cast on, knit and purl stitches, how to use stitch markers and how to knit a simple pattern repeat.
This class will enable you to read your knitting by counting rows, fix mistakes/dropped stitches if and when they happen, how to change colour if you choose and finally casting off.
Although you will not complete a project in this session, knitting can be slow, you will leave the studio confident with needles in your hands and a good understanding of knitting.
Also, you will take home a scarf pattern designed for beginner knitters and you are welcome to purchase yarn to complete this scarf at home after the workshop.
Don’t forget to come back and show us your amazing handiwork!
