In this class
Come down to Hackney and get your hands dirty in this Terrarium making workshop. Grace & Thorn provide everything from the vessel to the succulents, showing you the steps to create your own miniature garden to take home with you.
Terrariums are basically miniature ecosystems, and can either be closed or open. A closed terrarium has its own continuous rain cycle that facilitates plant growth as whenever moisture evaporates from the soil and plant leaves, it condenses on the container's roof and walls and then drops down to moisten the soil. Plants for enclosed terrariums prefer low to medium light, moist soil, and a humid environment. Experts suggest small ferns, crotons, and creeping figs for enclosed terrariums.
Grace and Thorn, Hackney
338 Hackney Road
Grace & Thorn is a florist based in Hackney, Soho and Brick Lane.
Inspired by Nik’s Grandparents who used their kitchen as a potting shed, Nik Southern founded Grace & Thorn in 2011. Opening her tiny floral studio onto East London’s busy Kingsland Road, her philosophy was simple: help people see flowers and plants in a different way, drawing on the world of nature, art and fashion rather than traditional florist designs.
Grace & Thorn plays with unique combinations of textures and patterns so no two pieces are ever the same. An asymmetrical style, focus on foliage and DIY classes has attracted a cult following across London. Grace & Thorn now has a flagship store in Hackney and opened its doors to Soho in the Winter of 2015. A third store in Brick Lane has just been launched.
Any class can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase. See cancellation policy.
