Daytime

Work with artist Michelle Avison to explore trace monotype, drawing into an inked surface through paper to achieve a range of marks. Explore markmaking using different tools and how different papers make a difference to the print. Learn how to print from the reversed drawing that remains on the plate.

Monotype is a great way to develop ideas- it is a quick and immediate way of exploring colour, composition, line and mark making. Bring a sketchbook, drawings, photographs or a found image to work from and find out how to use the monotype process to develop your image making.

Did you know?

Monotype and Monoprint. Ever wondered what the difference is? A Monotype is made from a blank plate, whilst a Monoprint is always made from an existing plate that has marks on it, for example an etching plate that is then printed with additional marks made on the surface, so that it has some elements that stay the same each time it is printed.
