3 hour workshop
Do you yearn to take some creative time for yourself? Book a lino-print workshop with Kim today and take a step on a printmaking journey that Kim guarantees you won't regret!
Kim has been an art teacher for 20 years with a background in screen-print and she is currently teaching weekly classes to adults alongside her own printmaking practice.
Kim's home studio is based in leafy green Forest Hill and the space is wonderfully light and peaceful with a huge window looking out on mature trees and gardens.
This workshop will use the exciting technique of lino-cut & you will learn how to create a design/composition & how to transfer this to your lino as well as using the tools safely to cut your block. This will lead into the wonderfully messy bit where you ink your block & begin making a series of prints. You will have the options to experiment with different colours of both inks & papers, to achieve different results.
All materials will be provided.
This workshop can cater for the needs of individuals, whether you are a complete beginner or a print-maker looking to refresh and develop your skills. Workshop sizes are small to allow space as well as individual teaching & support.
Kim will also introduce the technique of 'reduction' printing, where the same block is used, yet more of the design is cut away between prints & new layers of colours are added. We can also explore some chine colle methods, using colourful tissue collage layers & printing over the top!
Most of the printmaking will be done by hand, however the studio is equipped with a beautifully new A2+ printmaking press made by a company based in Ironbridge and you are welcome to have a go!
Please bring a selection of images with you to help with your lino design ideas. These can come from photocopies, photographs, magazines, newspapers, wrapping paper and scraps of printed fabrics, patterns etc, anything you find that appeals to you! Kim will also have a bank of images that you are welcome to use too.
The workshop will last for 3 hours and in this time you will create a series of prints to take home with you. Hopefully you will have caught the printmaking bug, if you haven't got it already!
You will enjoy, as Kim affectionately calls it, 'elevenses' halfway through the morning, in the form of coffee and homemade cake! Printmaking is enormous fun and the making process really feeds the soul!

About your host, Kim Minuti - The Surface and the Ink
The Surface And The Ink operates from the home printmaking studio of Kim Minuti.
An art teacher with 20 years experience and a background in screen-print, Kim loves everything about 'print'! Already running weekly workshops alongside her own printmaking practice, selling her work online as well as through Open Studio events and local galleries/retailers.
Kim is keen to share her skills with people who yearn for some creativity in their lives and some valuable, enriching time for themselves.
The studio is equipped with a beautiful A2+ printmaking press hand built in Ironbridge, lots of natural light and a calm space to relax and create. Printmaking is a varied medium & extremely suited to experimentation.
The studio can offer classes in monotype, dry-point, lino and collagraph printmaking. Class sizes are small, to allow supportive teaching and an informal atmosphere to encourage collaboration. Classes are well suited to complete beginners, as well as print-makers looking to develop skills in a particular medium or as refresher opportunities.
After each class you will be rewarded with your own art to take away with you and you will feel uplifted!
Printmaking is messy business so please don't wear your best outfit! An old shirt or mucky apron is ideal. Halfway through the workshop homemade cake and tea & coffee will be served as a vital way to re-energise as well as to collaborate, contemplate and just have a friendly chat! Please remember to bring along your selection of images too. The studio is just outside bus stops served by the P4 service, yet there are many other bus routes and stops within a 10-15 minute walk. It is also equidistant to both the Forest Hill & Honor Oak Park train stations. Both are served by the Southern train service running from London Bridge as well as the Overground. If you are driving then there is parking available directly outside.
