I started running shoe workshops in 1997 when I recognised that people wanted to make shoes for themselves as a hobby. There was nowhere available for them to do this at the time. Shoemaking requires very specific tools and machinery that are not available in the local craft shop, so i decided to create a sandalmaking workshop which uses minimal specialist equipment so that it is possible for students to carry on their new found hobby at home. Students choose their own leathers from a selection on offer. There are a few different strap options available, or students can make their own simple style. The sandals are leather. To source a vegan option I would need to be given at least 6 weeks notice. The aim of the workshop is for students to have a fun day whilst learning a new skill. Whilst we try and ensure that each student goes home with a well fitting and comfortable pair of sandals, we cannot cater for students that have specific foot problems and are looking for a made to measure pair of sandals. Sandals will be made in standard widths and lengths, although there is room for adjustments to be made. There is an option to buy more supplies at the end of the workshop.
