Single session

This taster session is a great way to start your first experience working with Clay!

You will learn basic throwing techniques from cylinders to bowls. 3-4 pieces will be selected at the end of the class for Melisa to finish. After this session, Melisa will trim, glaze and fire your pieces which may take another 3-4weeks.

Your pieces will go through 2 firings. The first firing will reach 1000 degrees and the second will reach 1260 degrees in Melisa's electric Kiln.

Please note that this session may be shared with one other pupil (Melisa has 2 wheels in her studio). This is a great way to share your experience with another budding potter!

This was our first pottery class and we were both instantly hooked! Melissa helped guide us through the basics of throwing on the wheel and, by the end of the quickest hour and a half ever, we had made a selection of fantastic looking pots! She managed to perfectly balance teaching with allowing us to work and experiment independently. Her experience really showed by her ability to instantly recognise mistakes and help you correct them with clear and simple guidance. She is a very patient and talented ceramicist and we would highly recommend her classes to anyone wanting to start pottery. We absolutely intend to go back!

Melisa is such a friendly (offers tea and lovely conversation) and helpful teacher, and really makes you feel comfortable! She focuses on your mistakes and makes you learn through practice - and then you get to keep things you made after they're fired and glazed! Had an awesome experience would 100% recommend and visit again. Maria

Taster session- Throwing on the pottery wheel by Melisa Dora - art in London

About your host, Melisa Dora

Melisa Dora is a ceramic artist specialising in beautiful and versatile hand-thrown tableware, glazed in a fusion of vibrant and subtle colour combinations.

After graduating with a first class degree in ceramics and wood, Melisa went on to set up her own ceramics studio , working on a variety of tableware collections and freelance commissions for clients. She also teaches ceramic workshops in her London studio and enjoys passing on her own expertise and passion for making beautiful objects by hand. This has in turn informed her own professional development.

Melisa creates complementary coloured glazes, in a variety of textured and smooth finishes, which she mixes herself in her studio. These are layered onto simple forms to create crystalised surfaces and geometric patterns.

Melisa offers one to one and group sessions on the pottery wheel and handbuilding.
