2.5 hour class
Learn an introductory traditional drawing class with Nichola Eddery. Nichola will offer her unique blend of traditional training through drawing from the 17th Century Old Master paintings of Rubens. Nichola has designed this workshop for those who are eager to experience an introductory class of traditional drawing. The class will be modeled on 19th-century French atelier practices that were derived from the Renaissance Masters's traditions. The morning will begin with a brief history about the National Gallery and Rubens followed by demonstrations and exercises to help each student learn how to start a drawing and learn how to achieve a clearer understanding of gesture, proportion, and structure. Through a step-by-step methodology, Nichola will teach you the introductory stages through learning the envelope and the stages of the block-in which you will then apply these concepts through drawing from a figure from a Ruben's painting.
Nearly every great painter from the past was trained and many would have drawn from their predecessors in museums. From Nichola's own training she knows the importance of continually learning and drawing from old master drawings and paintings. The National Gallery has an abundance of these treasures and through these works, she believes her programs will not only give her students the skills and ability to become a stronger draftsman, but the confidence to return to museums to continue their own practice and inquiries from masterpieces.
The class is designed for a small group of 1- 6 students, so each participant receives more one-to-one tutoring time with Nichola.
